Introduction

My name is Declan and i am currently studying Software Engineering Beng HON at the Sheffield Hallam University. I have a passion for the automotive industry and would like to land a position as an automotive software engineer once i finish university.

A bit about my self; i like to keep fit by playing football with mates and running in my spare time. I like to try and push my limits and i do this by running longer distances than i am used to. I also like being able to play football with friends because it allows me to socialise and have fun.

My hobbies besides football and running are photography and baking. I like being able to learn how to make new things and constantly improving. This is also the same within my learning as i like to learn how to create new things and see them come to life.

Aims and Goals

My aims and goals career-wise, i would ideally like to have a job which is somewhat orientated around the automotive industry. I am currently interested in developing mobile applications onto digital car stereos which use android operating systems.

In the meantime i am carrying out research into how i can root an android car stereo so that i can eventually purchase a car stereo and then download applications that i have made onto the device. I am doing this as it will allow me to gain experience with the technology and software that i may need if i was to work on similar projects in the real world.

12/08/2024 - 23/08/2024 (two weeks)

Worked at AMRC (Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre) (University of Sheffield) for two weeks as voluntary work placement. During my time at AMRC, i was able to develop my skills and was able to learn more about:

  • Potential use of Rasberry Pi (temp sensors, messages, battery update screen)
  • Markdown (create table of contents, drop downs/ open by default)
  • Gain advice on how to get experience for the job i am aiming for.
  • Gain advice on creating a portfolio and differentiating myself from the rest.
  • Advice for future potential placements and jobs.

Whilst there i was able to:

  • Create a tutorial course for Arduino robot. This will be used for future student placements at AMRC.
  • Built a pi zero camera into a OO gauge train carriage, using a raspberry pi set up, along with necessary battery packs and required software. The set up used my mobile hotspot to wirelessly access the live camera from my laptop.

Sheffield Wednesday Football Club

Job Title:

Bar tender

Duration:

28/02/2023 - Present

Description:

At Sheffield Wednesday, where i currently work, i am a bar tender for the VIP customers of the club. I consistently contribute to providing a high-quality standard service to the customers. I frequently interact with the box holders of the club, whether that be small families, companies, close relatives of players or even ex players.

I make sure that high-quality is maintained and ensure that all drinks are up to standard, whether that be by checking and correcting any heads on pints or filling spirits up with the expected amount of ice (zero or non in whiskeys/ full glass of ice with gins).

I also pay close attention to the service and experience that our customers recieve and i try to make this as seamless as possible. I am able to do this by progressing with drinks orders as soon as we recieve them and sending them out with drinks runners straight away once they have been completed.
